UKUSA Community - Definition and Overview

The UKUSA Community is an alliance of English-speaking nations for the purpose of gathering intelligence via signals intelligence. UKUSA is made up of:

• the United States, via the National Security Agency
• the United Kingdom, via Government Communications Headquarters
• Australia, via Defence Signals Directorate
• Canada, via the Communications Security Establishment
• New Zealand, via Government Communications Security Bureau

The primary purpose of UKUSA is to service the ECHELON monitoring system.
