The second Norfolk (CA-137) was to be a heavy cruiser. The ship was laid down 27 December1944 at the Philadelpha Naval Shipyard, but construction was cancelled 12 August1945.
The third Norfolk (DL-1) was a destroyer leader, the first major warship built by the Navy after World War II, and in service from 1953 to 1970.
