USS Rentz (FFG-46), an Oliver Hazard Perry-class frigate, is a ship of the United States Navy named for Commander George S. Rentz (1882–1942). For his selfless bravery following the loss of Houston (CA-30) in the Battle of Sunda Strait, he was posthumously awarded the Navy Cross—the only Navy Chaplain to so honored during World War II.
Rentz was laid down on 18 September 1982 by the Todd Pacific Shipyards Co., Los Angeles Division, San Pedro, Ca.; launched on 16 July 1983; and commissioned on 30 June 1984.
As of 2005, Rentz is captained by Commander Dominic DeScisciolo, homeported at San Diego, California, and part of Destroyer Squadron 21.
