USS Wadsworth (FFG-9), third ship of the Oliver Hazard Perry class of guided-missile frigates, was named for Commodore Alexander Scammel Wadsworth (1790-1851). Ordered from Todd Shipyards, San Pedro, CA on 27 February1976 as part of the FY75 program, Wadsworth was laid down on 13 July1977, launched on 29 July1978, and commissioned on 2 April1980. Decommissioned on 28 June2002, Wadsworth was handed over to Poland the same day and commissioned as that nation's ORP Gen. T. Kościuszko, after a Polish soldier who fought in the American Revolutionary War. She was formally stricken on 23 July2002.
