Udine, Italy - Definition

Udine is a town in north-eastern Italy, not far from the Slovenian and Austrian borders, in the region of Friuli - Venezia Giulia. With 100000 people and the largest province of the region it is considered the capital of Friuli territory, even if it is not the oldest town in that area, as the first written documents about its castle are dated around the year 987.

The name of Udine is probably derived from the germanic deity Odin.
