Unit 100 (see also List of Japanese War Atrocities) in Changchun (長春) and Mukden (奉天) was a secret Japanese facility that focused on the development of chemical weapons during World War II. The area now called Shenyang (瀋陽) in China was disguised as an epidemic prevention and water supply unit.

Unit 100 was created to research about bacteria of animals. The purpose was to kill horses to weaken military power and to use animals as carrier of diseases. It is also suspected that it experimented with live human subjects, but no record or proof of human experimentation has been found. Unit 731 was created to develop biological weapons against humans. The following potential agents were tested:

  • Glanders Mr. Kuwabara gave testimony after WW2 that Unit 100 released horses infected by Glanders.
