United Counties of Northumberland and Durham, Ontario - Definition and Overview

The United Counties of Northumberland and Durham was a historic county in the Canadian province of Ontario. The two counties formed a united government in 1800, and continued to operate with various level of co-operation until 1973, when portions Durham County joined with Ontario County to form the Regional Municipality of Durham. At this time, Northumberland County reverted back into a standalone county.
