The United Reformed Church in North America is a theologically conservative, Dutch Calvinist denomination. The URC (as it is commonly called) was founded as a federation of Reformed churches in 1996 at Lynwood, Illinois URC. Most of the churches that founded the URC were previously members of the Christian Reformed Church in North America (CRC). The URC broke away from the CRC over the issue of whether or not women could be ordained into church offices as deacons, or elders.
