Universal City is the 415 acre property of Universal Studios in the San Fernando Valley region of Los Angeles County, California. Approximately 70% is in an unincorporated area of the county surrounded by the City of Los Angeles, and the remaining area is in the city itself. [1] (http://www.findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m5072/is_23_24/ai_91213483) Universal City was founded by Carl Laemmle as a 230 acre (0.9 km²) ranch dedicated to movie-making. It continues to be home to Universal Studios. Located here are the 36-floor 10 Universal Plaza (offices for Universal and NBC), the Sheraton Universal, the Universal Hilton, Universal Studios Hollywood(the theme park), Universal Citywalk ( a shopping and entertainment center), Universal Amptheater (host to concerts and other events), and Universal's studios, sets, and lots. A Metro Rail station is located across the street from the 10 Universal Plaza building, the Universal City station of the Red Line.
