The University of Denver (DU), founded in 1864, is an independent university in Denver, Colorado. DU typically enrolls about 9,500 students.

In autumn 2003, DU opened a new 63.5 million USD facility for its College of Law, what was later named the "Frank H. Ricketson Jr. Law Building". The building includes a three-story library with personal computers accessible to students.

DU's athletic teams are known as the Pioneers and the school competes in the Sun Belt Conference in basketball.

Football was once the most popular sport at Denver, as the school competed in the Sun Bowl and Alamo Bowl during the late 1940's. However, the program was discontinued in 1960 due to financial reasons.

Ice hockey is now DU's premier sport, as the Pioneers were the 2004 NCAA National Champions, and are regularly ranked among the nation's top teams every year.
