The University of New Orleans, often called UNO, is a medium sized public urban university located in New Orleans, Louisiana.

History

UNO was founded in 1956 as the New Orleans branch of Louisiana State University, originally as "Louisiana State University in New Orleans" or "LSUNO", but became more independent and changed the name to "University of New Orleans" in 1974. However, the school remains part of the Louisiana State University System.

Campuses

The University has six main campuses spread throughout the New Orleans Metro Area.

  • UNO Lakefront Campues
  • Main Campus
Called the "Lakefront" campute, main campus is located on the shores the Lake Pontchartrain end of Elysian Fields Avenue on the former site of Camp Leroy Johnson.
    • UNO East Campus
The Nat G. Kieffer Lakefront UNO Area is in a separate piece of land on Franklin Avenue.
    • Research and Technology Park
Located at the former site of Pontchartrain Beach amusement park.
