The University of Venice (Università Ca' Foscari Venezia) was founded on August 6 1868 as the Scuola Superiore di Commercio, the first institution in Italy to deal with higher education in the fields of economics and commerce. It became a university in 1968, and currently have four facilities, of Economics, Foreign Languages and Literature, Letters and Philosophy and Mathematics, Physical and Natural Sciences. The University has around 10,000 students, and is also known as simply Università Ca' Foscari, after the university building on the Grand Canal.
