Upper middle class - Definition and Overview

Class or Caste

Society is split into different groups according to class (in most western countries) or caste (in most eastern countries). These systems are in place to determine an individuals worth in society.

In the UK, the Registrar Generals Classification is used to determine which class you are in, by the type of Job you have.

   eg. Bus Driver - some skill - middle class
       Doctor     - Highly Skilled - Upper Middle Class

This classification only applies to those who work, those who are upper class (queens, Mayors etc) have no real classification system.

Other forms of classification are used, each usually to suit a political agenda. eg. Marxism with the proletariat and the bourgeoisie
