Vasile Alecsandri (1821-1890) was a Romanian lyrics poet, born in Bacău. He gave gave the first impetus to the collection of Romanian popular songs and first drew attention to their inimitable charm.
A complete edition of Alecsandri's writings in nine volumes was published in Bucharest in 1875.
