Vatersay - Definition and Overview

Vatersay (Scottish Gaelic: Bhatarsaigh) is a small island and its village in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland, with a popultion of about seventy people. It is linked to Barra by a causeway completed in 1991. At low tide, the island is also linked to Uinessan.

Wildlife on the island includes otters, seals and herons, and Bonnie Prince Charlie's flower is found only on Vatersay and Eriskay. The island also has remains of a Norse fort.
