Vire is a commune and a canton of the département of Calvados, in the Basse-Normandie région, in France. It is also the seat of this canton.

Thecity is located near the Vire river.
Administration
Vire amalgamated two communes in 19 year timeline:
- Neuville in 1953
- Saint-Martin-des-Tallevende in 1972, (old INSEE code: 14631), a partner with a population of 1,117 inhabitants in 1999.
