The Vitim River is a major tributary of the Lena River. It is 1,978 km long. Its source is east of Lake Baikal, from where it flows north through the Transbaykalian Mountains and the town of Bodaybo. Upstream of Bodaybo it is navigable to its confluence with the Lena, west of Lensk.
