Vogosca Municipality - Definition

Vogošća is the secondary suburb of Sarajevo in Bosnia and Herzegovina, located about 6 kilometers north of the city center and covering some 72km². Vogošća greatly prospered during the 1980s, as part of Sarajevo’s great boom in the latter half of the 20th century. It grew to prominence in large part due to its automobile manufacturing industry, having deals with German and Swedish companies. Indeed, by the late 80s it was the second most industrious and productive Općina in the ex-Yugoslavia.

Like most other parts of the city, Vogošća was heavily damaged during the Siege of Sarajevo, its factories included. Today Vogošća is rebuilding and its industries are rising from the ashes. Vogošća has a population of around 8,600, although it had some 12,000 residents in 1991.
