 Volunteers (movie) - Definition

Volunteers is a 1985 movie starring Tom Hanks, John Candy, Rita Wilson, and Gedde Watanabe. The story follows Ivy League preppy Lawrence Bourne III (Hanks) who takes his roommate's place as a Peace Corps volunteer in Thailand in order to escape his mounting gambling debts. The movie is memorable both for Candy's earnest performance as the idealistic "Tom Tuttle from Tacoma, Washington," and for the fact that Hanks met his future wife Rita Wilson while shooting this film.
