WMI (X window manager) - Definition and Overview

In Unix computing, Window Manager Improved (WMI), is a lightweight window manager for the X Window System. It was started in late 2003, and it attempts to combine the best features of LarsWM, Ion, evilwm and ratpoison. It also bills itself as the vim of window managers, as it has two modes as in vim, a normal mode and a command mode. In the command mode, one uses the keyboard to execute various commands such as to invoke programs or configure the window manager.

A complete rewrite, dubbed wmii and currently in progress, is intended to reduce resource usage and improve performance, and to improve rendering capabilities, modularity, configuration, and the IPC interface.
