WWE Armageddon - Definition and Overview

WWE Armageddon is a pay-per-view event that began in December of 1999, and followed the Survivor Series pay-per-view in November. Following the brand extension, Armageddon became an exclusive event for either RAW or SmackDown!, allowing any feuds stemming from Survivor Series to be finished. The only year that Armageddon has not been held was in 2001, when it was determined that the pay-per-view name should not be used due to the events of September 11, 2001 and the subsequent activities in Afghanistan; WWE Vengeance was shown in its place for that year only.

1999

Results for WWF Armageddon 1999, from the National Car Rental Center in Sunrise, Florida:

• The Acolytes (Bradshaw and Faarooq) won a tag team battle royal to receive a shot at the WWF Tag Team Titles at Royal Rumble 2000. • The Hollys (Crash Holly and Hardcore Holly) defeated Rikishi Fatu and Viscera
• Val Venis defeated Davey Boy Smith and D-Lo Brown in a Triple Threat Match to win the WWF European Title

• Chris Jericho made Chyna submit to win the WWF Intercontinental Title

• Dean Malenko, Perry Saturn, and Eddie Guerrero defeated The Hardy Boyz (Jeff Hardy and Matt Hardy) and Lita in a six-man elimination match
• William Regal pinned Hardcore Holly to retain the WWF European Title
• Val Venis pinned Chyna
• Chris Jericho defeated Kane in a “Last Man Standing” match
• Edge and Christian defeated The Dudley Boyz (D-Von Dudley and Bubba Ray Dudley), Bull Buchanan and The Goodfather and Road Dogg and K-Kwik to win the WWF Tag Team Titles in a Four-Way Tag Team Match
• Chris Benoit defeated Billy Gunn to win the WWF Intercontinental Title

• Chris Benoit defeated Eddie Guerrero by submission
• Batista pinned Kane
• Victoria defeated Trish Stratus and Jacqueline to retain the WWE Women's Title in a Three-Way Match
• Kurt Angle pinned The Big Show to win the Smackdown WWE Title
• Triple H defeated Shawn Michaels in a "best two out of three falls" match to win the RAW World Heavyweight Title; Triple H pinned Michaels in a "Street Fight" match, Michaels pinned Triple H in a "Steel Cage" match, and Triple H defeated Michaels in a "Ladder" match.

2003

Results from the RAW brand pay-per-view WWE Armageddon 2003, from the TD Waterhouse Centre in Orlando, Florida:

• Randy Orton defeated Rob Van Dam to win the WWE Intercontinental Title
• Chris Jericho and Christian defeated Trish Stratus and Lita in a Battle of the Sexes Match when Christian pinned Stratus
• Shawn Michaels defeated Batista
• Ric Flair and Batista won a "Tag Team Turmoil" match to win the WWE Tag Team Titles; other participants were The Dudley Boyz (Bubba Ray Dudley and D-Von Dudley), La Resistance (Rob Conway and Rene Dupree), Val Venis and Lance Storm, Scott Steiner and Test, Hurricane Helms and Rosey, and Mark Jindrak and Garrison Cade.
• Molly Holly pinned Ivory to retain the WWE Women's Title
• Triple H defeated Goldberg and Kane in a "Three-Way Match" to win the World Heavyweight Title when Triple H pinned Goldberg

2004

Results from the SmackDown! brand pay-per-view WWE Armageddon 2004, from the Arena at Gwinnett Center in Duluth, Georgia:

• Kurt Angle defeated Santa Claus.
• Doug and Danny Basham defeated Hardcore Holly and Charlie Haas.
• WWE Tag-Team Champions Rob Van Dam and Rey Mysterio defeated the team of René Dupree and Kenzo Suzuki to retain their championship.
• WWE United States Champion John Cena defeated Jesus Aguilera in a Street Fight. Cena retained his United States championship.
• Dawn Marie defeated Miss Jackie with Charlie Haas being the Special Guest Referee. Charlie Haas decided in the end to not marry either Miss Jackie or Dawn Marie.
• The Big Show defeated Mark Jindrak, Luther Reigns and Kurt Angle in a three-on-one Handicap Match. The Big Show used Brock Lesnar's maneuver F5 to win the matchup.
• Tough Enough contestants Daniel Puder and Mike Mizanin fought each other in a shoot boxing match entitled Dixie Dog Fight. Daniel Puder ended up being victorious after three one-minute rounds with neither one being knocked out.
• Funaki defeated WWE Cruiserweight Champion Spike Dudley to win the WWE Cruiserweight Championship.
• WWE Champion John "Bradshaw" Layfield defeated Eddie Guerrero, The Undertaker and Booker T in a Fatal Four Way Match. Heidenreich interfered and attacked The Undertaker. John Layfield pinned Booker T after the Clothesline from Hell.

2005

The 2005 edition of Armageddon is scheduled to take place on December 18, 2005. The location has yet to be determined.
