WXIA - Definition and Overview

WXIA-TV (11 Alive, channel 11) is a Gannett-owned television station in Atlanta with the following history:

  • 1951: Began as ABC affiliate WLWA
  • 1968: Callsign WQXI-TV
  • 1976: Callsign change to WXIA-TV
  • 1980: Changed network affiliation to NBC (ABC went to WSB-TV 2)

The XIA stands for XI (11 in Roman numerals), and Atlanta. WXIA's transmitter is located at 110 Arizona Avenue Northeast, in Atlanta, Georgia.
