War is a 1983 (see 1983 in music) album from U2. It is their third album released February 28, 1983, preceded by October in 1981 and followed by the live album Under a Blood Red Sky later in 1983. It was recorded at Windmill Lane Studios in Dublin, Ireland produced by Steve Lillywhite, except "The Refugee" (track 6) was produced by Bill Whelan.

Kenny Fradley played the trumpet, Steve Wickham the electric violin on "Sunday Bloody Sunday" and "Drowning Man." Well-known songs from this album are "Sunday Bloody Sunday," "New Year's Day," and "40." "New Year's Day" had been released as a single in January 1983
