Ward is a town located in Allegany County, New York. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 390.

The Town of Ward was incorporated in 1856 and is in the southwest part of the county.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 75.6 km² (29.2 mi²). 75.6 km² (29.2 mi²) of it is land and 0.03% is water.

Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 390 people, 133 households, and 107 families residing in the town. The population density is 5.2/km² (13.4/mi²). There are 244 housing units at an average density of 3.2/km² (8.4/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 97.69% White, 1.03% African American, 0.00% Native American, 1.28% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.00% from two or more races. 0.00% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 133 households out of which 41.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 70.7% are married couples living together, 6.8% have a female householder with no husband present, and 18.8% are non-families. 14.3% of all households are made up of individuals and 6.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.88 and the average family size is 3.19.
