The Warlpiri are an indigenous Australian (or "Aboriginal") ethnic group, many of whom speak a language also called Warlpiri. There are between five and six thousand Warlpiris, living mostly in a few towns and settlements scattered through their traditional land in Australia's Northern Territory, north and west of Alice Springs. About three thousand still speak the Warlpiri language. Most Warlpiri-speakers are bilingual with English.
