Warren Rudman - Definition and Overview

Warren Bruce Rudman (born May 18, 1930) was an American Senator from New Hampshire. He was elected as a Republican in 1980 and re-elected in 1986, and was known as a pragmatic centrist. He chose not to run for re-election in 1992. He is now a partner in the international law firm Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton, and Garrison.

Biography

Rudman has lived his entire life in New Hampshire, with few exceptions. He received his undergraduate degree from Syracuse University, and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He received his law degree from Boston College's law school in 1960, and was appointed attorney general of New Hampshire in 1970.

Senate Career

Rudman served on the Senate Appropriations Committee and the Ethics Committee. His best known legislative effort was the Gramm-Rudman-Hollings Act.
