Warwick Todd - Definition

Warwick Todd is a fictional character created by author and comedian Tom Gleisner; Todd is the author of fictionalised cricket diaries.

Todd is portrayed as a member of the Australian team and the author of "tour diaries", recounting his experiences. Tour diaries are also written by legitimate cricketers and sold to the public, and much of the humour of the Gleisner version stems from the skilled parody of the real diaries.

In contrast to Billy Birmingham's The Twelfth Man, Todd is supposedly really playing in the matches he writes about. Therefore, within some bounds, the events and results described on the pitch are accurate. Off the field, however, the team is portrayed as being quite different to its public image.

Todd's books are quite difficult to understand for non-fans, as he refers to all players and support staff by their nicknames and not their real names. This is again in keeping with the "blokey" style of many tour diaries.
