Wayport - Definition and Overview

Founded in 1994, Wayport, Inc. is a Wi-Fi broadband internet access provider, based in Austin, Texas. Seeking to market towards business travelers, Wayport provides hot spots in hotels, airports, and retail chain stores. Beginning 2004, Wayport has begun creating hot spots in approximately 8000 McDonald's restaurants throughout the United States.

Wayport began a program in 2004, Wayport Wi-Fi World, which would work with telecom partners, creating unlimited-use Wi-Fi locations, paid monthly by the location itself. The telecom companies involved would be able to legally resell the services under their own brand.
