Liu Wei was born in Guangdong, China in 1964. He received his PhD from Georgia Tech in 1992. After a brief stint in teaching and research jobs in packet networks, he made himself available to the telecom companies. Joining the telecom company did not get him to work on the up-coming packet transformation, except in isolate projects such as Internet Management Evaluation and Customer Network Management for Fast Packet Networks and Services. Instead he engaged in more projects concerning interconnection electronic interfaces which requires conformation to various standards. While participating in ATIS (T1M1 and TCIF) activities, he became an expert in standardization and at one point was appointed BellSouth's T1M1 voting member while serving as an SME in various other committees. Some of his achievements included "T1 outstanding contribution award", "T1 outstanding editor award" and "TCIF Awards for service to ECIC New Technology Research Group". After left BellSouth in 2002, he used to sit on the same desk with the same work number and doing the same (or less) projects for a while. He later learned to ponder with issues outside a single company or a single industry but he still concentrated on the communication needs and the technological capabilities. Dr. Wei Liu is looking into dealing with industry issues at the larger scale of areas and fields, at the same time gaining more insight into the wider interconnected world and virtual industrialization economy. |
