In Australia, the word Westie can refer to a person of low social order from the western part of Sydney, NSW. Recorded use of the term dates from at least 1977.

New Zealanders use the word Westie or Westy with a very similar meaning, for people living in west Auckland (notably around Henderson), New Zealand: it dates from at least 1992, and carries connotations of a brash poor white subculture.

Not necessarily an insult, the term can occur affectionately or even, more rarely, with pride or irony.
