The White House Plumbers is the name given to the special investigations committee established along with Committee to Re-elect the President in 1971. Its job was to stop the leaking of confidential information relating to the Nixon administration to the public and press, but soon branched into more nefarious projects. They were in charge of what was referred to as "internal security". It was the Plumbers who arranged for the Watergate break-in.
The principal Plumbers were E. Howard Hunt, G. Gordon Liddy, David Young, and Egil Krogh. They reported to John Ehrlichman.
