Whitehouse Whitehouse

Whitehouse - Definition and Overview

Whitehouse is an English noise band formed in 1980. They are known for their controversial lyrics and images (which are often interpreted as misogynistic, sexually deviant, and extremely violent) and the band's members have been the subject of censorship in the past. Their name is in mock tribute to the British moral campaigner Mary Whitehouse. The group's founding member was William Bennett, who was soon joined by Philip Best and Peter Sotos who subsequently left in 2002 leaving the band as a two-piece. In the early 1990s, renowned American producer Steve Albini began working with the band.

Many of their releases feature album artwork by controversial artist Trevor Brown.

It is rumoured they released a Christian album under the name Black House.
