Wica was the original spelling used by Gerald Gardner to refer to the supposed pre-Christian religion of witchcraft. Raymond Buckland also used this spelling when he named his own tradition of Seax-Wica. The spelling Wicca is now the preferred form.
Other Uses
WICA has also been used as an acronym by at least two organisations involved with modern forms of witchcraft:
- Witches International Craft Association established by the Rev. Dr Leo Louis Martello probably in 1970.
- Witchcraft Information Centre and Archive established by Leo Ruickbie in 1999.
