William Lawrence - Definition and Overview

William Lawrence (1850-1941) was an American Episcopalian bishop of Massachusetts, a position which he assumed in 1893. He is best known for founding the church pension system. His son, William Appleton Lawrence, became bishop of western Massachusetts in 1937.
