William Wilkins (17791865) was an American politician from Pennsylvania.

He was born in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, and practiced law in Pittsburgh. He was elected to both the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate as a Democrat and a Jacksonian. Wilkins served as U.S. Secretary of War from 1844 to 1845 under President John Tyler.

Wilkinsburg, Pennsylvania, is named after him.
