Wilson County is a county located in the state of Tennessee. As of 2000, the population is 88,809. Its county seat is Lebanon6.

Geography

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,510 km² (583 mi²). 1,478 km² (571 mi²) of it is land and 33 km² (13 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 2.17% water.

Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 88,809 people, 32,798 households, and 25,582 families residing in the county. The population density is 60/km² (156/mi²). There are 34,921 housing units at an average density of 24/km² (61/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 91.50% White, 6.26% Black or African American, 0.32% Native American, 0.48% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 0.48% from other races, and 0.92% from two or more races. 1.27% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 32,798 households out of which 37.20% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 64.20% are married couples living together, 10.10% have a female householder with no husband present, and 22.00% are non-families. 18.10% of all households are made up of individuals and 6.10% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.67 and the average family size is 3.03.

In the county, the population is spread out with 26.20% under the age of 18, 7.70% from 18 to 24, 31.70% from 25 to 44, 24.70% from 45 to 64, and 9.70% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 36 years. For every 100 females there are 97.40 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 94.80 males.

The median income for a household in the county is $50,140, and the median income for a family is $56,650. Males have a median income of $39,848 versus $26,794 for females. The per capita income for the county is $22,739. 6.70% of the population and 4.60% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 7.80% of those under the age of 18 and 11.50% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
