Windows on the World - Definition and Overview

Windows on the World (1976-2001) was a 50,000 square foot (4,600 m²) elegant restaurant that opened in New York City, New York on top of the north tower of the World Trade Center in 1976. Windows underwent a $25 million revamp after the 1993 WTC bombing, and in the year 2000 reported revenues were $37.5 million United States dollars, making it the highest-grossing restaurant in the United States.

Windows on the World, the famed restaurant and function venue; Top of the World, a glass-enclosed observatory and outdoor observation deck; and the other World Trade Center venues were destroyed in the September 11, 2001 attacks.

Since 9-11, there has been an ongoing attempt by former employees of the restaurant to establish another restaurant with the same name.
