Woochi is an online encyclopedia related to wine, and aims to be the largest of its kind.
Functionality includes: a full-text search engine (similar to Google, but for wine only), a winefinder, wine shop locator, wine event calendar, a graphical browser to navigate the hierarchy of wine regions worldwide, and a wine web directory (similar to Open Directory Project, but for wine only).
Woochi uses the ISWN (International Standard Wine Number) global reference database of wine producers and wines worldwide.
Open Source forums allows wine lovers to add text notes, images, and links. Structured wine tasting notes and ratings coming from different sources are added as well, for example through sites such as WARPA (see www.warpa.com). Wine producers can update their company and product information through a module called ISWN Manager (see www.iswn.net). Wine shops can add their company information and supply wine prices.
Woochi went online in August 2002. In 2003 the database was enriched with wine ratings and prices. The website and user interface is still a first-version prototype. Major improvements can be expected for 2004.
