Xanga is a web site that provides users with weblogs. It is operated by Xanga.com, Inc. and is based in New York City. Xanga currently hosts the largest number of weblogs on the internet.
Users of Xanga are referred to as "Xangans".
Xanga offers a free service and a pay service called Xanga Premium. Members with a Xanga Premium account have access to several additional features -- namely spellcheck, image uploading, and an enhanced WYSIWYG editor. Premium costs start at US$4.
Xanga is separated from other blogging sites by its focus on community. Highly integrated subscription and blogring features allow a user easy tracking of his favorite Xanga sites. Xanga also makes heavy use of eProps, a system of ratings given by Xangans at the comment page. A commentator can assign the post being commented on 0, 1, or 2 eProps, which are then posted along with his comment.
Xanga is mostly used as a personal diary site, whereas other weblog publishers are frequently used as content management systems and integrated into independent webpages. Xanga is commonly considered just as extensible compared with other common blog sites.
