Xiamen Airlines (厦门航空) is the first airline company in People's Republic of China run by private individuals, established on July 25, 1984, Based in Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport. The rights are shared by China Southern Airlines 60% and Xiamen Construction and Development Group 40%.
On October 2, 1990, Xiamen flight MF8301 from Xiamen to Guangzhou, a Boeing 737-247 jetliner, hijacked shortly after took off from Xiamen, and crashed into Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport, caused a total of 128 fatalies, and 2 other aircrafts in the apron were destroyed.
The company continually develops. As of 2004, it has 29 Boeing 737 and Boeing 757 planes, 4434 seats. It is among the best airline companies in China.
Xiamen Airlines' IATA designator is MF and the ICAO airline code is CXA.
