Yisrael Salanter - Definition and Overview

Rabbi Yisrael ben Zev Wolf Lipkin (1810-1883) was the father of the Mussar movement in Orthodox Judaism. The epithet Salanter was added to his name due to the influence on his thinking by Rabbi Zundel of Salant.

1877 he founded a famed Kovno kollel.
