Ynglis is a name for the language of the now extinct kingdom of Northumbria. A remnant of the language survived under this name in the Lowlands of Scotland until the early 16th century, when it acquired the name Scots. (Until the late 15th century the name Scots had refered to the Gaelic of Highlanders & Islanders.)
