Young Americans for Freedom - Definition and Overview

Young Americans for Freedom (YAF) is a conservative youth group based in the United States of America. It was founded in 1960 in Sharon, Connecticut with the help of conservative author William F. Buckley Jr. as an alternative to the left-wing groups which dominated campuses at the time. YAF became most famous in the 1960s for its activism in support of Barry Goldwater and Ronald Reagan as well as its frequent clashes with far left student groups such as the Students for a Democratic Society. YAF continues to exist today on numerous college campuses and continues to advocate conservative issues. Its most recent activities have been demonstrations against affirmative action and in support of the war on terrorism.
