YouthBuild - Definition and Overview

YouthBuild is a non-profit organization based around giving unemployed young American adults (between ages 16 and 24) a chance to help rebuild their community, as well as give them opportunities to advance their education and sense of responsibility for both their community and themselves through Co-Counselling-based leadership development.

One of the main purposes of YouthBuild is to build affordable housing for low-income families. The organization has made tens of thousands of these houses since 1993. Also of major importance in the program is its educational segment. The program helps people who have not graduated from high school earn a GED.

There are over 200 YouthBuild programs in the United States. YouthBuild is a part of the AmeriCorps group of non-profit organizations.
