Zaknafein Zaknafein

Zaknafein - Definition and Overview

Zaknafein Do'Urden is a fictional drow character created by R.A. Salvatore in the Forgotten Realms campaign setting. Zaknafein was the father of the Forgotten Realms' famous drow hero Drizzt Do'Urden.

Watching Drizzt's great potential, Zaknafein understood that his son will be far better as a warrior, than as a wizard. Fighting with two long swords, Zaknafein was a formidable warrior himself: when another House Patron challenged Zaknafein in a duel, respectively the weaponmaster spared his life, but cut his hair short with a single stroke. Under his teachings Drizzt succeeded to surpass his father. Distinguished from the other drows, Zaknafein loved his child as a father loved his son. Later, the weaponmaster sacrificed himself for Drizzt, because his son spared the life of an elf.

Then Zaknafein fought Drizzt as an undead zombie (a Zin-Carla), turned by the Matron Mother Malice. After a vicious battle he regained some control of his body and threw himself into a pool of acid, thereby destroying himself and finally putting his soul at rest, embraced by the goddess of good drows Eilistraee.
