Zane Lowe, a radio DJ, currently with BBC Radio 1, was born in New Zealand. He worked for many years in alternative music broadcast on London's XFM before starting work for the BBC. He currently presents the evening slot from 19:00 to 21:00 on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, where he plays a variety of music from the alternative scene, including rock, punk, drum and bass, and UK hip hop.
The show includes many features including the "Sunsetter" where a more mellow track is played as the sun sets each night and the "Encore" when listeners can text in to request a repeat of a track that has already been played.
