In David Eddings's fantasy saga The Belgariad, Zedar is a disciple of Torak.
Zedar was formerly known as Belzedar, and was a disciple of Aldur, until he attempted to stealthily obtain the Orb of Aldur from Torak, who corrupted Belzedar's mind and forced him to be a disciple of his own.
Belzedar is trapped under the earth permanently by Belgarath in Enchanters' End Game.
His race is never explicitly explained in the novels.
